What if you could “unprint” and reuse paper?

In offices the world over, heaps of printouts and photocopies from laser printers get used once before being discarded, or tossed on shelves to collect dust indefinitely. But what if they could be wiped clean and used again?
An engineering team at the University of Cambridge in the UK has figured out how to erase pages by vaporising common toners using a laser-based technique that doesn't damage the underlying paper. It can delete words and images printed on paper.
Toshiba of Japan already sells a special laser printer/copier (video) that uses a blue toner which can be almost completely erased with heat treatment. David Leal-Ayala and his colleagues at Cambridge have taken the idea a step further, though, with a method that can recover the paper from any laser printed or photocopied document. After testing and ruling out toner removal processes that use mechanical abrasion and chemical solvents, they focused on the most promising method: laser pulses which vaporise toner particles in thin layers until they are no more.
"The key idea was to find a laser energy level that is high enough to ablate - or vaporise - the toner that at the same time is lower than the destruction threshold of the paper substrate. It turns out the best wavelength is 532 nanometres - that's green visible light - with a pulse length of 4 nanoseconds, which is quite long,"Leal-Ayala.
Allwood and colleagues estimate it would cost Rs. 1,330,000/- to build a prototype unprinter but that the costs would come down as technology improves and it is commercialized. They believe that reducing the cost would make the device valuable in most offices by reducing the need to buy paper. It could also be kinder to the environment by reducing the need to use as many chemicals to recycle paper and cutting carbon emissions savings of up to 79 percent, they noted.

Facebook Security Tips

Update Your Account Information

If you need to change your username, update your email or password, or adjust any of your account information, click Account at the top of any page and select Account Settings in the dropdown menu that appears.
Manage your Account Settings

Protect Your Account

As always, we recommend that you change your password periodically to stay safe online. If you think your account has been compromised or if someone else has access to it, we recommend resetting your password. To reset your password:
  • Click Account at the top of any Facebook page.
  • In the dropdown menu that appears, select Account Settings.
  • Scroll down to Password, click the “change” link, and follow the instructions.

Control Who Sees Your Information

Use your privacy settings to control who gets to see your posts and timeline. You can also specify privacy for a specific message or post, and control how much information you share with applications (such as games and quizzes). To get to your privacy settings, click Account at the top of any page and select Privacy Settings in the dropdown menu that appears.

Unfriending Someone

You can remove a connection to a friend that you are no longer comfortable sharing with. If you’d like to remove a friend, navigate to the person’s timeline and click the gear icon on the right side of their timeline and select "Unfriend." If you decide later that you’d like to be friends later, you can send them a friend request.

Blocking Someone

If you are being harassed by someone or if you just don't want be visible to them on Facebook, you can block them from your timeline. When you block someone, it breaks all ties you have with them (friendship connections, friend details, etc.). The two of you will no longer be able to see each other's timelines or find each other in search results. To block someone, go to the block list in your Privacy Settings, use the "Report/Block" option under the gear icon on the right side of their timeline, or use the Report link associated with the message in your inbox (or found on any content they post).

Facebook Manners

How you present yourself on Facebook says a lot about who you are-just like what you say and do at school or with your friends. In all public places, online and off, it’s important to represent yourself as the kind of person you want to be.

Think Before You Post

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and write or do something that may seem hilarious at the time. But remember, what you say can really hurt someone, or come back to haunt you. Think before you post. It only takes a second or two. Ask yourself if you really want to say it. Make sure you don’t mind if your friends, classmates, or teachers hear about it later.
Also remember that any information you post – whether in a comment, a note, or a video chat – might be copied, pasted, and distributed in ways that you didn't intend. Before you post, ask yourself - would I be OK if this content was shared widely at school or with my future employer?
At the same time, we all make mistakes. If you find yourself wishing you hadn’t said or done something, it’s never too late to apologize.

Don’t Talk to Me Anymore

If you ever receive hurtful or abusive messages or posts on your profile page you have options. Depending on how serious the situation is, you can ignore it, ask the person to stop, unfriend or block the person, or tell your parents, a teacher, a counselor, or another adult you trust. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

Report Abusive Content

Be sure to always report abusive content-whether it’s on your profile page, or someone else’s. You can also report inappropriate Pages, Groups, Events and fake or impostor profiles. (Remember that reporting is confidential, so no one will know who made the report.)

Some Quick Tips.

  1. Don’t share your password with anyone.
  2. Only accept friend requests from people you know.
  3. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want your parents, teachers, or employer to see.
  4. Be authentic. The real you is better than anything you might pretend to be.
  5. Learn about privacy settings, and review them often.

Report Abusive or Offensive Content In Facebook

Facebook Abuse

Report Abusive or Offensive Content

The most efficient way to report abuse is to do it right where it occurs on Facebook, using the “Report” link near the post, timeline or Page.
If you receive a harassing message from one of your Facebook friends, you can click the “Report” link next to the sender’s name on the message, and remove the person as a friend. Reporting the message as harassing will automatically add the person to your block list. You can also use the "Report/Block" option that appears under the gear icon on the top right of every person’s timeline.
Reports are confidential. People you report won’t know that they’ve been reported. After you submit a report, Facebook will investigate the issue and determine whether or not the content should be removed based on the Facebook Terms.

Social Reporting

Social Reporting is a feature of the reporting tool that helps you resolve issues with posts, timelines or other content on the site. If you are reporting content you don't like, but that doesn't violate the Facebook Terms, you can directly communicate with the person who posted it. For example, if you are reporting a photo of yourself, you can easily send the person who posted it a message letting them know you don't like it. In most cases, they will take the photo down if you ask.
In cases of bullying or harassment, where you don’t feel comfortable reaching out to the person directly, you can use social reporting to get help from a parent, teacher or trusted friend. You can share that piece of content and a message about the situation with someone you trust. You also have the option to block the person who posted the content and report it to Facebook so we can take action, if appropriate.

Improve PC performance- Simple Tips (Win XP)

Improve PC Performance

Over time, computers get slower because files become disorganized and resources are consumed by unnecessary software. Microsoft Windows XP includes tools to clean up your computer and restore its performance.
Before you do anything, back up your computer.

Remove unused programs

First, remove programs you don't use anymore. Programs take up space on your computer, and some run in the background without your knowledge. Removing programs you don't use can help restore your computer's performance.

Install and run antispyware software

Most programs can be removed using the Add or Remove Programs function accessible from Control Panel, but spyware programs are more stubborn. Windows Defender (a free download from Microsoft) or another antispyware program can detect and remove these programs. You should always have an antispyware program installed, because spyware might install itself on your computer without your knowledge. After you install the antispyware program, run it to detect and remove any unwanted programs.

Free up wasted space

Removing unused programs is a great way to free up disk space, which will speed up your computer. Another way to find wasted disk space is to use the Disk Cleanup tool.
Use Disk Cleanup to:
  • Remove temporary Internet files.(Start->Run->'temp',Start->Run->'%temp%'-without quotes)
  • Delete downloaded program files, such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets.
  • Empty the Recycle Bin.
  • Remove Windows temporary files, such as error reports.
  • Delete optional Windows components that you don't use.
  • Delete installed programs that you no longer use.
  • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.

Defragment your hard disk drive

When a file is fragmented, it takes longer for the computer to read it because it has to skip to different sections of the hard disk drive. Defragmentation improves your computer's performance by reorganizing your files. While fragmentation looks complicated, it's easy to defragment your computer.
When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals (weekly is optimal), there are other times you should run it, too, such as when:

  • You add a large number of files.
  • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
  • You install new programs or a new version of the Windows operating system.
 ( Path: Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> System tools-> Disk Defragmenter)

Disconnect unused network connections

The problem with network drives is that Windows XP will attempt to connect to the network drive when it starts up. If the remote computer does not respond immediately, Windows XP will wait, which will slow down your startup time. Additionally, some programs will attempt to connect to the network drive when you browse for files and folders. To reduce the problem, you can disconnect any unused drives.

Cloud Computing in Simple Words

Cloud Computing

Life before cloud computing

Traditional business applications have always been very complicated and expensive. The amount and variety of hardware and software required to run them are daunting. You need a whole team of experts to install, configure, test, run, secure, and update them.
When you multiply this effort across dozens or hundreds of apps, it’s easy to see why the biggest companies with the best IT departments aren’t getting the apps they need. Small and mid-sized businesses don’t stand a chance.

Cloud computing: a better way

With cloud computing, you eliminate those headaches because you’re not managing hardware and software—that’s the responsibility of an experienced vendor like salesforce.com. The shared infrastructure means it works like a utility: You only pay for what you need, upgrades are automatic, and scaling up or down is easy.
Cloud-based apps can be up and running in days or weeks, and they cost less. With a cloud app, you just open a browser, log in, customize the app, and start using it.
Businesses are running all kinds of apps in the cloud, like customer relationship management (CRM), HR, accounting, and much more. Some of the world’s largest companies moved their applications to the cloud with salesforce.com after rigorously testing the security and reliability of our infrastructure.
As cloud computing grows in popularity, thousands of companies are simply rebranding their non-cloud products and services as “cloud computing.” Always dig deeper when evaluating cloud offerings and keep in mind that if you have to buy and manage hardware and software, what you’re looking at isn’t really cloud computing but a false cloud.

Cloud 2: Mobility and collaboration

The latest innovations in cloud computing are making our business applications even more mobile and collaborative, similar to popular consumer apps like Facebook and Twitter. As consumers, we now expect that the information we care about will be pushed to us in real time, and business applications in the cloud are heading in that direction as well. With Cloud 2, keeping up with your work is as easy as keeping up with your personal life on Facebook.
